Makes Sense. . .

I was reminded recently of a talk, given a few years ago by one of the leaders of our Christian community, on the topic of Christian Manhood. In the course of talking about the Jewish commandment concerning circumcision (ref. Genesis 17:10-13), he made what I thought was an excellent point, and one I have never encountered anywhere else. . .

There is, he said, something profoundly appropriate about the sign of a man's consecration to God having to do with his sex organ. . .

I suppose!

I had to read this over a few times before I got it. :) I thought you only posted part of the post and would have to come back later for
"part II" to commentate on the "Talk".

I will say that, for whatever reason, I have issues with God about circumcision. (yeah, little old me...) While I have no problem taking many of His commands at face value (even ones which contemporary believers mostly consider "Of The Past"), something about circumcision has always rankled me.

I have heard it said that the type of circumcision practiced by ancient Israel was much less "surgical" and "extreme" than what is considered circumcision now. (ie: less foreskin removed, or simply creating a Mark on the foreskin). But, whatever. It still bugs me... and I don't even have a penis to worry about.

Gosh, thanks, ladies. If it wasn't for the two of you, I'd be left here with the crickets chirping. . .

Lime - See, that's what I thought. . .

Flutter - Well, I'll just leave you and God to go work out your issues with each other. . .

I've got a few friends who share your space on this, tho. Sorta, what's the point of making me cut off my (or, more to the point, my son's) foreskin, when You're the one who put it there in the first place?

Speaking purely on my own behalf, tho, I really don't remember how much it hurt. And, just judging from what I've seen of my uncircumcised friends, I'm just as happy to miss out on the 'hygienic' stuff that goes along with having a foreskin. . .
